I’ve loved spending so much time together over Christmas, and this year we had family come and stay with us which made the house buzz for the duration of their stay. It was packed to the rafters, warm and full or noise, and for me sitting around the table for lunch or dinner – all 10 of us – is precious, together time!
But, instead of the usual drift back to work in January, Dadtired is spending some more time at home. He’s got a few weeks transition time between his old job and his new, and we’re getting to spend some adult time together.
In fact, we haven’t spent so much grown up time together, and certainly not during the working day and without children, in over 8 years!
It feels good!
On Wednesday we dropped the children at school and scooted across to the Cinema for a 10am screening of Star Wars! * *I know, how indulgent?! ** I’ve never been to the cinema during the day before, and with only three other people in there it felt more like a private viewing – oohh!!
It’s 10am, the movie is about to start and we feel like school children bunking off school!
We’ve also been using this time to do some home upgrades, trawling through carpet shops and furniture stores for new sofas. Whilst this bit should be fun we’re butting heads slightly as we have completely different taste in home furnishings. I can’t believe how awful Dadtired’s taste is at times, and no doubt he thinks the same of me!
Yes or no?
I do sometimes wonder how we’ve managed to be together for 22 years – then again, they do say opposites attract!
We have one week left of being together before he starts his new job. I’m not sure what we’ll be doing next week, but spending more time together is certainly on the cards!
I really do hope you’ve had a good week, easing your way back into your routines, and that this wet January weather isn’t getting your down.

I'm Tracey, nice to meet you. Mummyshire was 'born' three years ago after we moved from London to the Oxford countryside. Here I chart our journey adjusting to our new lives, the challenges of being in the countryside & surviving parenthood.
