This week we’ve all been sporty – and I don’t just mean armchair participants whilst watching the Olympics!
We’ve loved the Olympics & catching up on the night’s sporting achievements & our gold medal wins. The Little Shire have been excited about watching people crossing finishing lines, scoring goals & winning medals, even though they don’t know the rules of the sports they’re watching. It’s been great & so uplifting!
This week I also lost the children to various summer sports clubs.
Mademoiselle took part in her three-day Cricket summer camp, for boys & girls of all ages. I’m surprised this was her chosen sport but she plays it at school, and with a few friends, has really enjoyed her cricket.
Little Mister attended Cricket Club for one day. Initially I was unsure about him taking part as the camp is for 6years plus, but Camp Leader agreed to take him, after Little Mister begged to go.
Little Mister is physically big for his age, and naturally sporty so I think people see him as older than his 5 years.
All went well until they started playing a short game. After being put into bat, Little Mister hit the ball with some force, but didn’t run. His team mates & his sister were shouting at him “run, run” but he was resolute to the point where he said to the Big Boys
“You’re not the boss of me, you can’t tell me what to do”
*Laughing out Loud*
I’m proud of his resolution not to be pushed around by the big boys, but I’m also kicking myself that I didn’t spend more time making sure he understood the principles of cricket! Maybe that’s why they need to be 6yo to take part *giggles!*
We’ve also played tennis, swam and played oodles of garden football, having unearthed some nets found in the depths of our shed(!)
I managed to put in a few running sessions at the gym this week too, whilst the kids were out at camp. I haven’t had the opportunity to do much during August – or the inclination, to be honest – and I certainly suffered for it the day after!
But it’s been a good, fun, physical week. The Little Shires have each come home totally exhausted, water bottles depleted, happy and they’ve slept well! *no complaints there!*
And so we enter the last week of the school holidays. Where has Summer ’16 gone?
Hope you’ve had a lovely week & enjoyed the weather
