Hello *ahem* it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday 24th March – I hope you remembered. Not just for yourself but for the other lady who brought you into this world, too.
Hand-made cards from our little ones are the ultimate gift, and I have kept each one & will continue to do so. But Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to give a little gift to yourself for being a mum; for the early morning and sleepless nights, the constant worrying and emotional guilt and for being a mummy 24/7.
Us mothers need to be celebrated!
So I’ve put together a gift guide that Mamma REALLY is going to like. Some you can buy online (if you’re quick there’s still time) and others have been found at the Banbury Gateway Shopping Centre, but all, I think, are a worthy way of saying ‘Thank You.’
The intention is always there but it rarely happens. I know I’ve often thought about printing off the photos of the kids that are in my phone but they’re still there, or on a storage cloud somewhere! It takes time to download, edit and print so offer to do it instead.
Use the added incentive of this shabby-chic photo frame from NEXT and give Mum a set of photos, unique & special to her.
Set of 2 Blue Hampton Photo Frames. Next. £12
Alternatively, if you prefer something more minimalist, look for frames with thinner borders. Perfect for starting that picture gallery wall you’ve always wanted.
It’s easy to find an excuse not to go out, sometimes. There’s the excuse of not being able to find a babysitter which just compounds the idea of staying in. But going out and spending quality time with your partner is invaluable.
Why not give yourself a reason to get out with your partner. Book into some Salsa classes – or ballroom or Latin. I’d say probably not street dance! It may take a little while to look at hot and steamy as these two dancers, but the fun is in the trying!
Dance Near You (dancenearyou.co.uk) is the idea place to find dance classes near you, wherever you are in the UK.
I think I’ve raved about this brand before, but this is certainly one to invest in this Mother’s Day now that Selfish Mother has collaborated with The Bright Company to produce these PJs.
Gorgeous all round & slightly indulgent at £48 but hey, it’s Mother’s Day! Wear these with pride.
Personally I don’t think you can every have too many scarves, and they transcend winter through to summer. Fat Face has some gorgeous scarves which are more lightweight and great for spring summer.
I particular like this one with a delicate dragonfly pattern. Only when up close can you really see the detail, which is stunning.
A sneaky Gin & Tonic mid afternoon is an indulgent treat, so why not pour yourself & your mum a G&T and just take some time out *assuming there is someone else around to look after the kids!*
I’m not a connoisseur by any means, I just know what I like…and this is what I like! According to the experts, it is “ a smooth and refreshing gin with big hits of orange and lemon citrus and hints of elderflower”
It comes in a gorgeous bold blue, bottle, and there’s even a gift set which includes a glass & the tonic!
6 O’Clock Gin & Tonic Gift Box, £9. Alternatively a 35cl bottle, from £20. Order online here
Yes, I know they don’t look very sexy and the majority of us would pass these by, which is why I’ve added them to the list. This is an invest-in-yourself type present.
Walking boots are something I didn’t think of buying until I wore them, and they’re worth every penny.
If you’re always out with the children, whether going on walks or visiting National Trust sites, I’ve found walking boots make all the difference. They’re comfy, offer more support than traditional trainers & are great for all outdoor occasions – muddy fields, running around a playground and generally being outdoors with the children.
I like these from Mountain Warehouse as they’re not too chunky but very functional.
How about these to add some pizzazz to the window sill? I think these Orla Kiely herb pots in her iconic retro 70s flower print are cute and would look stunning whether you’re growing herbs from scratch or just adding in a herb-pot from the supermarket. A great gift for foodie mums or if you just like pretty things!
Hurn and Hurn (hurnandhurn.com) £44.95
Or if your little ones want to spend a bit of pocket-money little gifts such as these heart-shaped earrings are a good bet. Or so is this heart-shaped, pendant. They’re pretty, not too expensive and are classic in design.
Silver Plated Heart Drop Earrings. £5. Heart Pendant Rope Necklace. £5. Marks & Spenser, M&S Collection.
You can shop the full range of gifts from Next, Marks & Spenser, Mountain Warehouse & Fat Face at the Banbury Gateway Shopping Park based in Banbury, Oxfordshire. Or, of course, online.
Whatever your budget, whatever your fancy, I hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day.
