Whilst ducking the rain we came across this fabulous toy shop – Legends of Toytown, Westbourne Grove, W2
Why is it when you’re not looking for something you always find something amazing?!
Even from the opposite side of the street this shop stands out, popping out of the high street because it’s so different to any other toy shop I’ve seen – or maybe it’s the brightness of the chandeliers?? It entices you with its decadence.
The shop itself is just stunning. Magical. Like stepping back in time.
Decorated like a Victorian emporium, it’s been restored to its original 1900s grandeur. It’s colour scheme with dark ceilings is really unusual for a toy shop. Then there’s the beautiful, fully restored Victorian gold cornice around the ceiling which sparkles against the row of restored chandeliers, which add atmospheric lighting.
But the toys are far from Victorian. It has some a range of wooden toys and funnies like whoopee cushions and faux poo *always good for a giggle, we find* but it’s also well stocked with brands like Hasbro, Ravensburger, Barbie and Marvel. It’s a toy shop Tardis.
105 Westbourne Grove has a long & amazing family history. The store site has been in the same family since the turn of the century, starting off as a classic car shop. Roll forward decades and R.S.Currie & Co – the original name of the store – is now Legends of Toytown, and is run by grandson Tom, in the heart of Westbourne Grove, Notting Hill.
The Little Shires had a field day choosing what they wanted to take home whilst rock music was playing in the background. And I did give in to their begging(!). Mademoiselle walked away with a (nother) Barbie Doll, Little Mister with a Batman figure & we picked up a RoboFish for a friend’s birthday.
You can spend pounds or pennies in there, get major toys or little fun trick items. Either way, this shop is so worth a browse. It’s legendary.
*Yup, it was raining
