Determined: Word of the Week #1

The Reading Residence

Wow! What a strong word and it’s the kind of word that carries with it a back story and boy does this week have a back story?!?!

This is my word of the week and it has been with me through the ups and downs of the last seven days, and will probably stay with me for a little while longer.

My blog is seven weeks old *silent cheers* and I’m pleased that I’ve got it this far – but it’s been harder than I thought because I don’t have 72 hours in any one day, and that’s what I need if I want to keep blogging and run the house and find a job and take the children to school, ballet, music, dance, and answer all her questions before & after school and be a wrestling buddy for Thing 2 and get me to bed before midnight ….

And amongst all of that I have been inching closer and closer to becoming a working mum again, which is what I want to be.  I thought I’d done it, I’d found a job that was local and interesting enough to engage my brain, but it wasn’t quite to be. You can read all about that here.

So, I’ve decided that I need to concentrate on developing my own business.  Hey, if I can’t find my perfect job I’m going to have to create it, right?

Also, DadTired is working on a project that is seeing him put in some uber-long hours.  Because of the commute from Oxfordshire to London he leaves the house just before Thing 1 & Thing 2 wake up and gets home long after they’ve gone to bed.  It’s only for another few weeks and he will be rewarded with a week in the south of France, all expenses paid and parties a-plenty.  Hopefully we’ll be rewarded with some lovely French goodies  [note to DT – don’t forget to bring home some goodies!]

But this means I’m doing my single-mummy act, but I’m determined not to let anything slip.  We haven’t been late for school once this week – one day we had to run across the playground to catch the end of the line, but we did it and Thing 1 giggled as we held hands and just went for it!

I’ve made it to gym, dance, music, we’ve done reading at home, I’ve stuck to my dinner schedule and Thing 1 & Thing 2 have pretty much been in bed by 7.30pm.

I’ve probably also drank more wine that usual as compenstation for my efforts [sorry DadTired, but I did open the good stuff].

Thing 1 & Thing 2 are happy, the spring flowers are adding a well needed colour-burst around the house and garden waking everything up, and I’m knackered.  But I’m also determined to keep their lives in balance, to get my life back in balance and to keep blogging.

Wow! Bring on next week…

I’m linking this post up with Jocelyn at The Reading Residence and her Word of the Week series.

Thanks for the linky x

All of that and time for the gardening! I’m not sure I squeeze in half of that, but sometimes isn’t it easier to know that if the plan goes wrong you only have yourself to blame? No misunderstandings or false expectation……well, just for a short time that is!!
